Folk Mandolin

Concert Mandolin

Based on the body design of the 10 string Mandolin and with a floating bridge, the Concert Mandolin is aimed at traditional Celtic players. It also has a wider fingerboard than the smaller Folk Mandolin. Scale Length 600mm Nut Width 34mm Width at 12th Fret 45mm. 10 String Mandolin

The 10 String Mandolin has an extra lower course of strings tuned down to "C". This gives this instrument the same as a Mandolin and Tenor Mandola together and allows the player a wider range. Cittern

The Cittern has the same range as the octave mandolin with an extra higher course tuned to B or A There are many ways in which a Cittern player might have this instrument tuned. ADADA and G D A E B. are examples. In the 16th century citterns were known to be commonly found in British barber shops and hung on the wall for the use of customers. The instrument you see here though bears little resemblance, It's much bigger and more evolved to suit the folk music and players in this century. Bouzouki

Brought over to Ireland from Greece. The fingerboards widened, built with a flat back and given unison stringing gives you one of the most popular instruments in folk music today. The Irish flatback Bouzouki. Made famous by some great players. The long scale is great for producing the rhythms you'll find in much of celtic music today.
